Inhalt: In einem Satz gesagt, geht es darum wie ein Junge namens Jamie, der einst mit Peter Pan befreundet war zu seinem größten Feind Captain Hook wurde.

Da Peter Pan eines meiner Lieblingsmärchen ist und ich ein totaler Fan von ihm bin war dieses Buch ein Muss für mich und ich konnte es kaum erwarten das Buch bei der #ranandensubmitAva endlich anzufangen. Der Anfang ging dann jedoch relativ stockend voran und ich kam nicht wirklich in das Buch rein. Ich weiß nicht genau woran es lag vielleicht weil ich so hohe Erwartungen an das Buch hatte und mich so sehr darauf gefreut hatte. Anfangs wurde meiner Meinung nach auch relativ viel beschrieben, sodass man sich die Welt und Neverland gut vorstellen konnte. Auch die kleine Karte die am Anfang beigefügt war fand ich dazu beitragen. Jedoch waren dies alle Dinge, die einem wenn man Peter Pan kennt bereits bekannt sein sollten.

Am Schreibstil lag es auf jedenfall nicht. Obwohl das Buch auf englisch geschrieben wurde, lies es sich relativ einfach und flüssig lesen. An manchen Stellen wirkte die Sprache etwas kindlich, was ich jedoch nicht als schlimm empfand, da es sich ja um Junge Kinder um die 13 Jahre handelte.

Doch so circa ab der Hälfte ging es dann Berg auf und fing an spannend zu werden, sodass ich das Buch kaum noch aus der Hand legen konnte/ wollte. Ich fand es klasse wie die Autorin die bekannten Elemente aus Peter Pan wie zum Beispiel das Krokodil oder Tinker in das Buch eingebaut wurden. Ebenso die Erklärung dafür, warum Jamie/Hook eine Hand fehlt und warum die Jungen auf der Insel nicht altern werden geliefert. Mehr möchte ich dazu aber nicht sagen um nichts vorweg zu nehmen. Generell thematisiert das Buch das Erwachsen werden.

"It's not such a wonderful Thing to be young", I said. "It's heartless and selfish." (S.296)

Jamie setzt sich im Laufe des Buches immer mehr mit dem Thema auseinander und man kann seine Entwicklung gut nachvollziehen.

"Was this, too, part of growing up? Was it facing the bad things you'd done as well as the good, and knowing all your mistakes had consequences?" (S.283)

Bei Jamie merkt man auch direkt, dass er anders ist als die anderen Verlorenen Jungs. Obwohl er der erste war oder gerade weil er der Erste war sieht er in den vielen Abenteuern und Spielen nicht nur den Spaß sondern vor allem die Gefahr für die Jungen. Er sorgt und kümmert sich um sie.

Dort wo Jamie sich sorgt macht Peter sich absolut keine Gedanken. Er will Spaß haben und benutzt die Jungen als Spielobjekte und will der Held von allen sein. Und bei wem dies nicht der Fall ist oder wer zu schwach zum mithalten ist wird von ihm fallen gelassen.

"He wants always to be that shining sun that we all revolve around. He'll do anything to be that sun" 

Charlie ist der kleinste der Verlorenen Jungs und ich habe ihn sofort in mein Herz geschlossen. Er ist mit seinen fünf Jahren noch so unschuldig und ängstlich und klammert sich an Jamie. Doch für mich ist Charlie ein Charakter der eine der größten Entwicklungen in dem Buch durch macht. Den er muss schnell lernen wie grausam Neverland doch sein kann. 

Sal hat für mich eine sehr starke Persönlichkeit und mir gefiel die Geschichte und die Entwicklung um ihren Charakter sehr gut. Mehr möchte ich dazu nicht sagen. Zuletzt gefiel mir Nod noch richtig gut der gerade im letzeren Teil des Buches sich stark gemacht. 

"Yes, because it's obviously better if you beat each other to death with rocks instead of stabbing each other like civilized human beings," - Sal (S.183)

Alles in allem war es ein gelungenes Buch welches von mir ★★★★✰ Sterne bekommt. Jeder der an Peter Pan interessiert sollte das Buch lesen. Doch ich muss euch waren es hat meine Sicht auf ihn verändert.

Zuletzt möchte ich noch die Widmung erwähnen die mir richtig gut gefallen hat und perfekt zu dem Buch gepasst hat:

For all the Boys I've known

May you never be lost

May you always find your way home

 I'm a huge fan of Peter Pan so i had to read Lost Boy which basically tells the story of Jamie - a young boy who was once friends with Peter Pan and became his biggest enemy Captain Hook.

Although Í was really really excited to read the book, I had my difficulties in the beginning. I couldn't really get into the story. The beginning contained a lot of descriptive elements of Neverland which you already should know if you like Peter Pan. I don't know exactly why I had these problems, maybe because I had such high expectations and really wanted to love this book.

I wouldn't say it was the writing style because the writing was easy to understand and one could read it fluently. Sometimes the language seemed to be a little childish. But that didn't bother me because all the protagonists were around 13 years old and so the language fits.

After around half of the book it finally began to become a lot better and also the tension increased. I couldn't put the book away.
One thing which I absolutely loved was the way how the author included the well known aspects from the story of Peter Pan into her own book e.g the crocodile and Tinker. And why Hook is missing one hand and why the boys don't grow up. At this point I don't want to say more because I don't want to spoil you.

The book deals a lot with the topic of growing up. Mostly through Jamie who often thinks about it and is faced with it.

"Was this, too, part of growing up? Was it facing the bad things you'd done as well as the good, and knowing all your mistakes had consequences?" (p.283)

Furthermore one can see that Jamie is different that the other boys. Although he was the first lost boy, or especially because he was the first, he sees more in the adventures than just fun. He also knows the risk and dangers for the boys. Jamie worries and cares about the boys.
The complete oppsoite to Jamie is better. He only wants to have fun and sees the boys more as a toy than the persons they are. He wants to be the hero of everyone. The ones who are too weak or too ill aren't worth Peters Attention.

Charlie is the smallest of the boys and I immediately loved him. With his five years he's still so innocent and fearful. From the beginnig he is focused on Jamie and Jamie Looks after him. For me Charlie is the one who goes through the biggest development. He has to learn very quickly how cruel the world can be.
I also liked Sal who has a great and strong personality and I loved the development and story behind this character.

All in all this was such an amazing book in the end which gets ★★★★✰ stars.
Everyone who is interested in Peter Pan should read the book. But I also have to warn you because the book changed my view of Peter Pan.
